My name is Tom, an engineer.

I enjoy tinkering with things to understand how they work. This generally follows a process of breaking, rebuilding and (hopefully) enhancing.

I currently am studying a Masters in Embedded Systems Engineering at the University of Leeds.

I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and studied Quantitative Finance at the University of Cape Town. I have worked in finance and tech. Through these experiences I have come to the (working) understanding that I enjoy building things. This was manifest most recently in a job as a data engineer. My desire to build has been taken one step further with my decision to pursue further studies in Embedded Systems Engineering.

Outside of engineering, I enjoy cooking, reading (my favourite authors are Neal Stephenson, Cormac McCarthy and John Steinbeck) and playing sports (my favourite sports to play are touch rugby and five-a-side football; my favourite sport to watch is cricket).
