Move to Leeds

In September 2026 I will embark on a move to Leeds. I will be studying my Masters in Embedded Systems Engineering for a year at the University of Leeds.

I believe it will be a year packed with a lot of learning. Obviously a lot of this learning will be necessitated by my university course but it will also be the first time I have lived outside of South Africa. I am looking forward to exploring the city and finding out about Leeds both historically and culturally.

I have loved living in both Johannesburg and Cape Town but neither city is particularly walkable (for the most part). I am really looking forward to be able to walk or cycle to the university and to get around the city centre.

As part of the year I would like to record my learnings in a blog. This will be posted monthly and will include (but not be limited to) the following sections each month:

• Learnings from my course
• Learnings about the city of Leeds
• Interesting findings
• Pub of the month

I am hoping that keeping such a blog will hold me to account so far as making the most of my year goes. Largely, too, I hope it will serve as a good way to communicate to my friends and family what I am getting up to and how I am using the awesome opportunity of being able to live and study in Leeds.
